AAI
OF CRYSTAL RIVER, FL FLIES THEIR SPARROWHAWK
Congratulations
go to CFI Terry Eiland, our authorized AAI Dealer of Crystal River,
FL, for the maiden flight of his SparrowHawk gyroplane. After completing
low and high speed taxi testing, Terry took off and ascended to
3,000 ft AGL, orbited the airport and returned to report "Very
nice feel... impressive stability... wonderful cabin and electronics...
love the fuel cell arrangement... all in all, terrific!" Terryís
SparrowHawk shares hanger space with his stability augmented RAF2000
which heís been flying and instructing in for a year now. Terry
joined us for the Florida airshows in April and plans on attending
PRA/Mentone and AirVenture this summer (see article below). Crystal
River is located just north of Tampa. Terry offers introductory
flight lessons and complete training for those who canít resist
the fun of flying the SparrowHawk. Email him at teiland@tampabay.rr.com
for more information. Many of our other dealers are in various stages
of completing their SparrowHawks and, like Terry, are providing
us with valuable input regarding their experience. To find an AAI
Dealer near you, we invite you to visit AAIís website at www.americanautogyro.com
and click on "Dealers."
SPARROWHAWK
AIRSHOW UPDATE
The SparrowHawk gyroplane from American Autogyro garnered its share
of attention at four spring airshows: Thunderbird Balloon &
Air Classic in Phoenix, AZ; PRA (Popular Rotorcraft Association)
Bensen Days Fly-In, held in Wachula, FL; EAA (Experimental Aircraft
Association) Sun ën Fun Fly-In, held in Lakeland, FL; and the EAA
Southwest Regional Fly-In, held in New Braunfels, TX. Many of those
attending took advantage of the Introductory Flight Lessons which
were offered at some of the shows and had great fun experiencing
the safe, stable flight characteristics of the SparrowHawk. Coming
up July 7 - 11 is the Northwest EAA Fly-In and Sport Aviation Convention
at the Arlington, WA Airport. American Autogyro of Seattle will
be on hand with their SparrowHawk and stability augmented RAF2000.
AAI will once again be attending the PRA International Convention
and Fly-In, July 21 - 24 at the Mentone, IN Airport, and the EAA
AirVenture Airshow in Oshkosh, WI, July 27 - Aug 2. Introductory
Flight Lessons will be offered during both events. Please visit
us if you plan on attending either of these events. Our display
at AirVenture is located in the Main Aircraft Display area, just
inside and to the left of the main gate. For additional information,
please visit the AAIís website at www.americanautogyro.com.
POPULAR
MECHANICS COVER STORY INCLUDES GBA GYROLIFTER
"Giant Gyros," the cover story of the June issue of Popular
Mechanics, features GBA and our concept gyrodyne aircraft, the
GyroLifter. The article focuses attention on the gyrodyne concept
and its potential military and civilian applications. The small
tip jets, located at the end of the rotor blades in the image below,
allow the GyroLifter to alternate from gyrodyne (powered rotor system)
to gyroplane (unpowered, free spinning rotor system - autorotation).
This gives the GyroLifter VTOL capabilities (powered) and the economy
and speed of autorotation when in flight. Also mentioned is our
RevCon 6G, a twin engine Cessna 337 which GBA converted to a gyroplane
using our patented rotorhead technology. For more information on
GBAís GyroLifter concept, please click here on "Gyrodyne."
