SPARROWHAWK II INTRODUCED

Our continuous efforts to improve our aircraft has resulted in the recent introduction of the SparrowHawk II Gyroplane, which features many improvements:

  • A new cabin design shows little visual difference, but is lighter, stronger and offers additional headroom in an already spacious 46” wide area (4” wider than a Cessna 172).
  • The seat mounting brackets have been redesigned, tilting the seats back an additional 5 degrees, providing a more comfortable seat position. The new design makes forward/aft adjustment easier and provides a greater range of seat adjustment.
  • An improved fuel delivery system moves all fuel connections outside the cabin. This added safety feature also eliminates the possibility of fumes from lines and connections inside the cabin.
  • A new single piece, welded main landing gear is stronger and easier to install than the earlier design.
  • The new rudder control system requires less foot pressure, is tighter and more responsive and includes a pulley system that makes it much easier to install.
  • A more powerful 80-amp alternator provides additional electrical power to allow the builder to add items such as landing and strobe lights, radios and additional navigation equipment.
  • The pre-built tail has been a popular option for SparrowHawk builders and is now included in the standard kit.

GBA/AMERICAN AUTOGYRO RECEIVE MEDIA ATTENTION

3GBA's recent US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) contract to design a proof of concept high speed, long range, vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft designed for use in Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) roles has received favorable note in many major aviation publications. AviationWeek & Space Technology, Flight International, Aviation International News and Jane's Defence Industry Review have published information and images on the DARPA named “Heliplane” in response to our November 2005 News Release, which is accessible on our website. The GBA led team includes The Georgia Institute of Technology, Adam Aircraft Industries, Williams International, and a highly renowned team of aerospace consultants. Georgia Tech is a top U.S. graduate engineering, research university with premier aerospace engineering programs and a world famous rotary wing technology program. Adam Aircraft is highly respected for its innovative use of modern composite materials, engineering quality, and rapid prototyping processes that has allowed Adam to bring to market two new high-performance aircraft: the six passenger “center-line-twin” A500 and the A700 personal jet. Williams International has developed more than 40 different small

gas turbine engine systems for both military and commercial air vehicles, including the Adam A700 and many other modern “biz-jets.” For more information, please click here on “Heliplane” to read the related News Release.

American Autogyro is proud to have the SparrowHawk II chosen by Aero-News.Net (ANN) for inclusion in their “"Best of Breed" List: 2005's Planes of The Year – SportPlane. ANN annually selects the best aircraft for their list, which they acknowledge to be a difficult task, especially this year, indicating “the 2005 list was a BEAR to decide on.” ANN is an online Aviation Aerospace News Resource, providing informative and interesting daily updates. Visit them online at www.aero-news.net for more information.

The SparrowHawk Gyroplane was the focus of a very complimentary and informative article in the January issue of the Experimental Aviation Association's (EAA) flagship publication “Sport Aviation.” The seven page article “Dialing in Stability” details the safety and stability advantages of centerline thrust and includes a pilot report on the flight characteristics, performance and ease of operation of the aircraft. For more information on the EAA, we invite you to visit their website at www.eaa.org. The SparrowHawk has also graced the pages of KITPLANES magazine and General Aviation News in recent months.
